The Foundation for Southeast Texas grant ceremony brought 75 local non-profit agencies together yesterday to support all they do to improve the communities they serve, and we feel truly honored to be among these wonderful organizations!  Thank you to the Foundation for supporting all of these worthy causes and for helping us, at Nutrition & Services for Seniors, to continue delivering the difference to our homebound neighbors!

What an extraordinary day we experienced at Nutrition and Services for Seniors with 20 Kelly High School students and four adult leaders who arrived very early to spend their day of volunteering with us!  They assembled 1700 Shelf Stable Meals to be delivered to our homebound clients on Memorial Day, shoveled soil and harvested vegetables in the garden, served lunch to our Seniors who come to our dining center for lunch and delivered meals to our Meals on Wheels clients.  Their youth and sunny personalities energized all our staff and provided a tremendous service to the agency. We don’t have enough staff to assemble the meals we need for the holidays and wonderful volunteers like the Kelly students make it possible for us to meet our deadlines.  YEA! BULLDOGS! THANK YOU!!!

The Big Event, a national day of volunteering, was indeed a very BIG successful day for Nutrition and Services for Seniors. On an absolutely exquisite Saturday morning we were thrilled to have seven dedicated Lamar University students and Lamar Professor Dr. Margot Gage along with her two adorable daughters walk through our door with their energy, big smiles and dedication to service. Within a brief two hour period, this extraordinary team assembled over 1,200 shelf stable meals which will be delivered to our clients for the Easter holiday. We maintain an inventory of these shelf stable meals which can be stored without refrigeration for our clients when we are closed for holidays or to use in the event of an emergency.  The many duties covered by our staff leave no time to assemble these meals and we are dependent on volunteers to help with this very important task.  To the Lamar University Team we say a very BIG THANK YOU for sharing your time with us. Working with you was a delightful and treasured experience.

You are probably thinking this beautiful woman is a fashion model but we are thrilled to tell you that she is one of our newest (and most enthusiastic) Meals on Wheels volunteers.  After living in Amsterdam, Dr. Margot Gage recently returned to Southeast Texas to be near her family and to take a position on the Lamar University Faculty.   How lucky for Nutrition and Services for Seniors that she has a heart full of love for older adults and is willing to share her time with our agency and our clients.  A big THANK YOU and WELCOME HOME MARGOT. We are so thrilled you are here.

This photo shows our big payoff for participating in the Lamar University Volunteer Fair. This year, Nutrition and Services for Seniors had the opportunity to participate in the Fair to encourage Lamar students to volunteer for our agency.  We provide about 1500 meals, five days a week for senior citizens in Hardin and Jefferson Counties and always need more volunteers to help with preparation and delivery.   When these six students, who are also members of the LU NAACP, arrived with their energetic personalities and beautiful smiles we all felt like we won the lottery.  They took time to learn about all of our operations and our services and then organized pet food for our AniMeals program in which we provide nutritious meals for the pets of our clients who cannot afford pet food.  The big supply of pet food we had on hand came to us through the Veterinary Clinic of Dr. Suzi Hahn who is an extraordinary supporter of our agency.  To Billy Foster II, Valencia Stewart, Rachel Davis, Roosevelt Mathews III, Janerika Livingston and Camden Thornton, we say a huge HOORAY and THANK YOU for bringing so much joy and sunshine into our day.   What a wonderful experience to see young people who are very busy with their university studies caring deeply about other people.

What a thrill to have 21 Legacy High School students bring their youthful and very enthusiastic energy to our team. Led by their sponsor, Ms. Edna Earney, they assembled 1200 breakfast bags, filled bags of pet food and helped prepare for our Baked Potato Fundraiser along with bringing a lot of sunshine into our lives. One of the students had participated in a previous project with us. She was so impressed with all the opportunities we provide to both those we serve and those who want to join us in service that she went back to her school and was the impetus that brought this wonderful group to us. Each one telling one is the way we succeed. Thank You, Haley and Legacy!

From line dancing and boot scootin' to beads and costumes, the 2017 Mardi Gras festivities at the Port Neches Senior Center were nothing short of amazing!

"I traveled hours just for THIS EVENT", says one guest.

The Pt. Neches Senior Center prides itself on being where Pt. Neches seniors make new friends and renew old acquaintances.  Those visiting the center enjoy activities such as bingo, chair exercises, line dancing, parties, games and more!

Each year, this Senior Center goes ALL OUT for Mardi Gras, and after only a few seconds of being in the room, you can feel the excitement of every single guest in attendance!  Mardi Gras at the Pt. Neches Senior Center isn't just King Cake and beads - it's costumes, line dancing, raffle prizes, and much more!!  This lively bunch came dressed to impress in their best Mardi Gras attire, sporting their dancing shoes and smiling faces and we, at Nutrition & Services for Seniors, are so happy that we got the opportunity to be there!!

Thank you all for welcoming us - we had a blast and can't wait 'til next year!
