Mateusz Bukovicky is part of a Generation of Dedicated Givers. He is a Lamar University grad student and many of his colleagues show us, by their example, that these extraordinary young people are tuned into the needs of other people. Matthew is another volunteer who went to our website to tell us he wanted to join our Meals on Wheels Delivery Team. I know our clients love opening the door to see his handsome smiling face. Thank you, Mateusz!! Showing America that our youth care. #Americaletsdolunch

Now this is a TEAM! This amazing group from Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission volunteers as a team to deliver two routes for Meals on Wheels every week. When teams work together there is always someone available to deliver without inconveniencing anyone. Volunteers don’t have to do it alone. We love teamwork. Thank you SETRPC!! #Americaletsdolunch

There’s no argument that this beautiful young mother has a life with few free moments, but she went to the Meals on Wheels website and completed the form telling us she wanted to volunteer. Now she delivers one day every week and takes the children with her. What a blessing for these precious children to grow up learning from their dedicated mom and the clients they serve. What a blessing they are to our agency and our clients. A BIG THANK YOU to Team Amanda. #Americaletsdolunch

Thank you JK Subaru for "Sharing the Love" with us during your annual event! Each year, the 'Share the Love' event is hosted by JK Subaru as a way to give back to their community! For every new or leased Subaru sold between November 17th and January 23rd, Subaru donated $250 to a choice of charities that strengthen the community!! Thank you again to our friends at JK Subaru for your continued support and for helping us deliver the difference to the seniors in our community!

The Foundation for Southeast Texas grant ceremony brought 75 local non-profit agencies together yesterday to support all they do to improve the communities they serve, and we feel truly honored to be among these wonderful organizations!  Thank you to the Foundation for supporting all of these worthy causes and for helping us, at Nutrition & Services for Seniors, to continue delivering the difference to our homebound neighbors!

For over a century, the employees of Del Papa Distributing have continued a proud tradition of supporting and strengthening the many communities in which their consumers, customers and employees live and we’re overjoyed that they have selected Nutrition & Services for Seniors as a cause worthy of their time, talents and financial support!  We can’t thank you all enough for believing in us and our efforts to serve the homebound in our community!  Thank you for your tremendous contribution – you have truly helped us in delivering the difference to our homebound neighbors!

What an extraordinary day we experienced at Nutrition and Services for Seniors with 20 Kelly High School students and four adult leaders who arrived very early to spend their day of volunteering with us!  They assembled 1700 Shelf Stable Meals to be delivered to our homebound clients on Memorial Day, shoveled soil and harvested vegetables in the garden, served lunch to our Seniors who come to our dining center for lunch and delivered meals to our Meals on Wheels clients.  Their youth and sunny personalities energized all our staff and provided a tremendous service to the agency. We don’t have enough staff to assemble the meals we need for the holidays and wonderful volunteers like the Kelly students make it possible for us to meet our deadlines.  YEA! BULLDOGS! THANK YOU!!!

The Big Event, a national day of volunteering, was indeed a very BIG successful day for Nutrition and Services for Seniors. On an absolutely exquisite Saturday morning we were thrilled to have seven dedicated Lamar University students and Lamar Professor Dr. Margot Gage along with her two adorable daughters walk through our door with their energy, big smiles and dedication to service. Within a brief two hour period, this extraordinary team assembled over 1,200 shelf stable meals which will be delivered to our clients for the Easter holiday. We maintain an inventory of these shelf stable meals which can be stored without refrigeration for our clients when we are closed for holidays or to use in the event of an emergency.  The many duties covered by our staff leave no time to assemble these meals and we are dependent on volunteers to help with this very important task.  To the Lamar University Team we say a very BIG THANK YOU for sharing your time with us. Working with you was a delightful and treasured experience.

You are probably thinking this beautiful woman is a fashion model but we are thrilled to tell you that she is one of our newest (and most enthusiastic) Meals on Wheels volunteers.  After living in Amsterdam, Dr. Margot Gage recently returned to Southeast Texas to be near her family and to take a position on the Lamar University Faculty.   How lucky for Nutrition and Services for Seniors that she has a heart full of love for older adults and is willing to share her time with our agency and our clients.  A big THANK YOU and WELCOME HOME MARGOT. We are so thrilled you are here.

This photo shows our big payoff for participating in the Lamar University Volunteer Fair. This year, Nutrition and Services for Seniors had the opportunity to participate in the Fair to encourage Lamar students to volunteer for our agency.  We provide about 1500 meals, five days a week for senior citizens in Hardin and Jefferson Counties and always need more volunteers to help with preparation and delivery.   When these six students, who are also members of the LU NAACP, arrived with their energetic personalities and beautiful smiles we all felt like we won the lottery.  They took time to learn about all of our operations and our services and then organized pet food for our AniMeals program in which we provide nutritious meals for the pets of our clients who cannot afford pet food.  The big supply of pet food we had on hand came to us through the Veterinary Clinic of Dr. Suzi Hahn who is an extraordinary supporter of our agency.  To Billy Foster II, Valencia Stewart, Rachel Davis, Roosevelt Mathews III, Janerika Livingston and Camden Thornton, we say a huge HOORAY and THANK YOU for bringing so much joy and sunshine into our day.   What a wonderful experience to see young people who are very busy with their university studies caring deeply about other people.
