On August 17th a group of Valero First Responders, Operators, Electricians, Chemists, and Engineers surprised one of our Meals on Wheels Clients and tackled both her yard that needed attention and some Housekeeping inside her home. She has been living in her home as it is still being repaired from Harvey. Several of the folks who volunteered worked the night shift and came straight out to help from work. Ms. Mary was crying tears of joy when she saw what was going on at her home - she said that God brought them to her and she gave them all little Bibles when they left. Thank you to Valero for going above and beyond to assure our homebound neighbors are able to continue living independently at home, but not alone!

We were happy for the opportunity to have Congressman Randy Weber visit Nutrition and Services for Seniors on Monday, August 12th!  During the August recess, Congressman Weber accepted an invitation by Meals on Wheels America to deliver meals in our region, visit constituents and witness firsthand the impact our services are making in the lives of our nation's seniors every day.  This was a wonderful opportunity to educate more individuals about our program and services that help the elderly and disabled adults in our community remain living independently at home, but not alone.

Elderly and disabled clients residing in Jefferson and Hardin counties who have unmet needs following Hurricane Harvey may be eligible to receive vital home repairs through our Client Assessment & Home Repair Assistance Program.

Through this program, we provide major & minor home safety repairs and accessibility modifications for eligible senior and disabled clients who have sustained damages to their home as a result of Hurricane Harvey.  Additionally, a Social Worker assesses the mental health of each client who may be struggling after having experienced the turmoil that a natural disaster may cause.  In some cases, referrals may be provided to better assist the client in the recovery process.
